Peristyle, an open colonnade surrounding the viridarium or garden of the Casa del Sacerdos Amandus, or House of the Priest Amandus, Pompeii, Italy. The peristyle has stuccoed tufa columns with Third Style painted decoration on the walls, 20-10 BC. Pompeii is a Roman town which was destroyed and buried under 4-6 m of volcanic ash in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
