Iron ring clasped in a bird's beak on the facade of the Palace of Charles V, designed by Pedro Machuca in the 16th century in Renaissance style as a residence for the Holy Roman Emperor in the Alhambra, Granada, Andalusia, Southern Spain. The Alhambra was begun in the 11th century as a castle, and in the 13th and 14th centuries served as the royal palace of the Nasrid sultans.
