Founded by the Viscount of Narbonne in 1093, Fontfroide linked to the Cistercian order in 1145. The Chapter house was built 1180-1280 in Romanesque style, with an arcade at the entrance of 2 groups of 5 columns supporting semi-circular arches. The ceiling is vaulted with 4 supporting columns as well as pilasters around the 3 walls. There are 2 rows of benches around the walls as the Chapter house was used for meetings and religious ceremonies. Picture by Manuel Cohen
